New Turkish Council of Higher Education Programs Attract Student Attention in 2025
The new programs launched by the Turkish Council of Higher Education, particularly in programming, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, have become a focal point for students. These programs have seen significant demand, with all available seats filled in many Turkish universities.
Increase in Turkish Universities Offering AI Programs
The Council of Higher Education announced an increase in the number of Turkish universities offering software and artificial intelligence programs in Turkiye from 20 to 70. Additionally, 50 new programs will be opened in additional universities this year, reflecting a strong push toward enhancing digital education and meeting future labor market needs.
High Demand for Cybersecurity Programs in Turkey
Cybersecurity programs in Turkiye have emerged as one of the most sought-after specialties among students. For example, the "Cybersecurity Engineering" program at Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) attracted students ranked within the top 2,000 in the university entrance exam (YKS).
Officials’ Statements on Developing New Specializations in Turkish Universities
Professor Abdul Halim Zaim, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Informatics at Istanbul Technical University, emphasized that cybersecurity programs will see increased interest in the coming years. He added, "We are developing curricula in collaboration with the industry to ensure graduates are qualified and ready for the job market."
Student Experiences in Studying Cybersecurity
Many students shared their experiences with these new programs. Oğuz Polat, a student in the "Cybersecurity Analysis and Operations" program, said, "I left electrical and communications engineering to study cybersecurity due to the promising opportunities in this field."
Another student, Ali Berhan Mert, added, "Despite achieving a high rank in the exams, I chose this program because it offers practical education and excellent internship opportunities."
Academic Development Opportunities
Assistant Professor Suat Terliksiz explained that students enrolled in cybersecurity programs can continue their engineering studies through a transfer system to bachelor's programs after completing their vocational training.
These achievements reflect Turkey's commitment to developing higher education and meeting future labor market needs, especially in growing technological fields like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
