Istanbul Gelişim University Extends ABET Accreditation for Engineering and Architecture Until 2031
In a move that confirms its academic excellence and commitment to global educational standards, Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) has announced that its Faculty of Engineering and Architecture has successfully extended its international accreditation from the prestigious U.S.-based ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) until September 30, 2031. To celebrate this milestone, the university held a ceremony titled "Registration in Quality, Unity in Success" to honor the academicians who contributed to this achievement.
IGU in the Same League as Global Universities
ABET accreditation is one of the most significant international recognitions granted to engineering programs worldwide. By securing this extension for the second time, IGU proves that its engineering programs not only meet Turkish national standards but are fully aligned with American and international benchmarks.
During the ceremony, Mr. Abdülkadir Gayretli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, stated: "Securing ABET accreditation for the second time is a deeply meaningful success. It proves our institutional professionalism and demonstrates that we are in the same league as world-class universities. This is not just a result, but a beginning for even greater goals."
Mr. Gayretli also highlighted the university's rising global profile: "Ranking first in Turkey and sixth in Europe for citations per paper in the QS rankings sharing the sixth spot with the prestigious Imperial College London is a vital indicator of our academic quality."
Sustainable Success and Team Spirit
The Rector of IGU, Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin, emphasized that this success was the result of collective effort and strategic planning. "Success is not individual; it is entirely a team effort," he noted. "We are not pursuing accidental or temporary achievements. We aim for sustainable success, which is why our 2024–2028 Strategic Plan was developed."
Prof. Şahin also pointed out the growth in the university's research culture, mentioning a record number of TÜBİTAK student project applications this year, which reflects the university's focus on innovation and practical research.
